The go anywhere do anything vehicle is undoubtedly the 4X4. Taking you, your family and even a dog or two through the rough and tumble has to be priority number one for these cars. However as they have become more luxurious over the years many have left their mud-plugging roots behind and become Chelsea tractors. So in a world of footballers who get blown over by a stiff breeze whilst charging the Earth to occasional kick a pigs liver in a net, its good to see the 2012 M-Class is just as rough and ready as its predecessor.
The redesigned German luxury off-roader is a handsome brute bringing the much loved car back up to date. The revamped engine range offers both an answer to the environmentalist and those looking for some muscle. Kicking things off is the ML250 that beholds a 2.1 litre four cylinder diesel block with 204BHP and 369lb-ft of torque. The ML350 Bluetec however gets the use of a 3.0 litre V6 packing 398BHP and a road twisting 457lb-ft of torque. The BlueEfficiency gets a bigger capacity V6 at 3.5 litres but thanks to the green party is neutered at 306BHP. All models come equipped with Merc’s new 7 speed gearbox and air-suspension.
