2012 Chrysler 300C, More Than Meets The Eye?

When you think luxury saloon, particularly in Europe, you tend to think of the Germans. Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have all calved up a considerable chunk in this particular automotive sector. Some wouldn’t even consider anything other than a product from the big three, but what other alternatives are out there? What about something a little more stateside?

The 2012 Chrysler 300C, after further research, appears to be much more than your traditional yank-tank. The brand is making a real effort to come through in Europe as a luxury icon that can stand on par with the best in class, the 300C goes a long way to make the point. Going on sale in the UK on 14th June, the 300C offers just the one engine option  though that is no bad thing as the 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel is equipped with Fiat’s MultiJet 2 technology. Inside the cabin is upholstered with high grades of leather and garnished with many toys that you would expect to see on the options list as standard. 8.4 inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control and 18 inch alloy wheels all impress. The previously mentioned screen is part of the electronic heart in this machine named Uconnect. The infotainment system takes care of all on-board connections and entertainment including BlueTooth syncing for phones, DVD player as well as the SD card reader. One particular feature I like the look of is the dimming mirrors that reduce the headlight glare of cars behind. Chrysler went to the effort of studying the 300C’s key competitors in a true effort to improve quality. The American firms new ties with Fiat means that the cars manufacture in Canada is to a very high standard.

This 2012 model also offers much in the way of performance as that twin-turbo V6 pack 236BHP which is more than enough to propel the car from 0-62MPH in just 7.4 seconds. But Chrysler have also focused on emissions and as a result CO2 figures are as low as 185g/km. Fuel consumption sits at an impressive 39.8 MPG showing that the 300C is to buck the trend and avoid being branded a “gas guzzler.” The transmission is a 5 speed automatic that also offers a semi-automatic feature for when the mood to get more involved with the drive take you.
