There are some pretty big 4X4’s out there, some could even be mistaken for articulated lorries, but they don’t really come much bigger than the Mercedes-Benz GL range. The behemoth seats 7 in your usual German refinement. It really does dominate everything around it making a regular sized car feel like an exhibit for a model village. Mercedes’ AMG division have got their hands on the latest GL… Let’s just say that those smaller cars might want to get out of Bigfoots path.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG is powered by a 5.5 litre twin turbo V8 that will quite willingly eat children. Weighing over two and a half tonnes, this mammoth machine is not our slimmer of the month, but with 549BHP and 561lb-ft of torque it isn’t what you would call sluggish. 0-62MPH is completed in 4.9 seconds, enough to make a Porsche Boxster look twice. The top speed is electronically limited to 155MPH and the transitions to this terminal velocity comes via a 7 speed automatic gearbox.
