Audi have put a lot of time and money into their electric e-tron technology. It has filtered into some cars but was ultimately showcased in an all-electric Audi R8. These cars were scheduled to be sold to the public, but then became test mules before a limited run was speculated. In the end the Audi R8 e-tron never saw showrooms which was a bit of a shame. However, with a new R8 on the scene it has been announce that the 2015 Audi R8 e-tron will be up for grabs by the end of the year.
Joining the very small group of performance all-electric cars, the 2015 Audi R8 e-tron shares its platform with the new car but ditches its V10 in favour of electric motors. Stylistically the two car look similar but it is the details that give the eco friendly car away. A closed grill, covered wheels and less pronounced side air intakes reduce drag. Additions include chrome detailing, a neat spoiler and a new bonnet vent for cooling. A fast charge for the R8 takes just two hours and on a full battery the car can travel up to 276 miles. 0-60MPH takes just 3.9 seconds thanks to having 456BHP and 920Nm of torque on tap. This is all sent to the rear wheels.
As well as being a showcase for technology, the 2015 Audi R8 e-tron will no doubt be a forerunner to an electric family car from the Germans.
Could this be the worlds most desirable electric car?
