The hot hatchback war is reaching boiling point! There has been a real resurgence in competition amongst manufacturers who turn their seemingly ordinary family cars into ASBO inspired heroes for the people. Hot hatches prove the theory that you do not need to own a Lamborghini to go quickly. The first Honda Civic Type-R became king of the hill winning the vote from many true car enthusiasts. Honda aim to not only rekindle its diehard affinity with hot hatchback fans, but also blow the competition out of the water. The 2015 Honda Civic Type really means business.
Appearing at the 2014 Paris motor show as a close to production ready concept car, the 2015 Type-R has not lost any of its brutish BTCC inspired visuals from the initial design. Bonnet grills, swollen wheel arches and a huge rear wind all remain from the Japanese cars first outing. To those who said Honda will “no doubt tone down the styling” the Civic’s quad exhausts appear to prove them wrong. This car aims to become the fastest front wheel drive hatchback around the infamous Nürburgring. More details have emerged about just how its engineers will try to claim that prize. A 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine will sit under the bonnet powering the front wheels. An impressive 276BHP and a six speed manual gearbox will work in tandem allowing for a 7,000rpm redline. A +R button will feature that adjusts throttle response, suspension and torque mapping.
Incase you were in any doubt, the 2015 Honda Civic Type-R means business.
