Type-R means a lot to the petrol head community as it represents some of the best engineering to come out of Japan. Honda’s Civic Type-R sells in huge numbers globally, but here in the UK especially as we are hot hatchback junkies. This year Honda revealed the all-new 2015 Honda Civic Type-R and it instantly set forums alight. As the full details of the car began to pour out it was very clear that something special was in store for fans of the red H. Early next week we will be amongst the first to drive the new Civic Type-R and to say we are excited is an understatement. Just before we jump on a plane to rendezvous with the car, here is a rundown of what we currently know about this latest ASBO inducer.
The 2015 Honda Civic Type-R is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged VTEC engine which produces 306BHP and 295lb ft of torque. Redline is 7,000rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels where trick suspension and a limited slip differential will attempt to quell torque steer. 0-62MPH is completed in just 5.7 seconds and this hatch will go onto a top speed of 167MPH. A 6 speed manual gearbox is the only one on offer, something which will please the enthusiast. Adjustable suspension means that there should be a good blend of hardcore track settings and more compliant road options. A +R butting adds weight to the steering and sharpens throttle responsiveness. A prototype Civic Type-R currently holds the Nurburgring record for front wheel drive cars.
The 2015 Honda Civic Type-R will start from £29,995.
