Audi have unveiled the “fastest R8 ever offered” for an appearance at the LA motor show. The power plant in the new Audi R8 Competition is a 5.2-litre V10 engine producing a monstrous 562bhp which is then distributed through all four wheels. Paired with a 7-speed S-tronic gearbox – it is able to take you from 0-60mph in a blistering 3.2 seconds and all the way to an eye-watering 199mph, figures normally reserved for the likes of the Ferrari 458.
Inspiration for the Audi R8 Competition is taken from the R8 LMS race car and possesses features like a carbon fibre fixed rear spoiler and a rear diffuser. Carbon fibre is also present in the engine bay and interior. Further performance upgrades consist of a sports exhaust and carbon ceramic brakes.
In early 2015, just 60 of the Audi R8 Competition edition cars will be produced exclusively for US customers and they will be given the choice from a variety of colours for both the body and wheels. Pricing has yet to be announced.
The Audi R8 is soon to be replaced with an all-new model. As Audi’s first supercar the machine has to be summed up as a success with plenty of sales to its name. This next car will share technology with the recent Lamborghini Huracan.
