Audi have announced a racing version for the Audi TT which comes with it’s own racing series. For many, the TT is a sports car is an icon and the Audi Sport TT Cup definitely looks the part. From the evil front grill and headlights all the way back to the colossal rear wing, the racing TT is definitely not want you would want to see in your rear view mirror.
Prof. Ulrich Hackenburg said, “For me it was clear that a driving machine like the new Audi Sport TT Cup belongs on the race track”, and “The TT is going to thrill fans and drivers”. It certainly has the performance figures to back this up; a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine produces 310hp whilst the car itself only weighs 1,125kg, which is a huge 335 kilograms less than the EU road going version. Also a push-to-pass function briefly increases the power by another 30hp. The four-cylinder engine and the six-speed S tronic gearbox remain almost unchanged from the current TT in production.
In the 2015 season, at six of the DTM events in and around Germany there are two races planned for the Audi Sport TT Cup. Eighteen spare places are to be filled for the race for drivers who are interested. The Managing Director of Quattro GmbH, Heinz Hollerweger says the TT is “an attractive race car for beginners and drivers who switch from other racing series”. This could prove to be a very exciting car for Audi and gives less experienced racers a chance to prove themselves in motorsport, and the winner of the championship will be given the opportunity to be a part of Audi’s GT3 sports car programme.
