There’s nothing quite like a blistering summer’s day in California. West coast USA conjures up many a glamourous image of Hollywood razzmatazz and glistening sun-drenched beaches. It’s not all about the picture-postcard paradise though, as every August the Golden State plays host to the gold standard in world motoring as the internationally renowned Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance rolls its way in to town.
Among the headline makers for 2015 are BMW who have confirmed that they will be bringing a double helping of intriguing concepts to the party in order to mark the German brand’s 40th year doing business stateside. Both confirmed as world premieres, the pair of concept models will likely give BMW fans a flavour of the Bavarian powerhouse’s potential future design dynamic. What’s more, there’s a more than distinct possibility that at least one of this duo will be performance orientated if the teaser image is anything to go by.
Clearly track-inspired, the semi-circular steering wheel is adorned with a number of curiously-marked buttons, of which selections such as “Cool”, “Flash” and “PSL” frankly yield more questions than answers regarding the concepts’ true identities. More revealing, however, are the tell-tale markings of a wild beast – that blue and red stitching carries the unmistakable hallmark of M division.
With the marvellous 2012 Zagato Roaster having previously strutted its stuff on the Pebble Beach stage, hopes are high for BMW to cook up another winning recipe at this year’s California extravaganza. All will be revealed on August 13th during Monterey Car Week. Be sure to stay tuned until then for further details.
