I remember attending the 2008 British international motor show and being stunned by the vast array of near production ready concept cars. The excitement of seeing examples of the Lexus LF-A among others so close to being finished promised an exciting time to be involved in this industry. And it was as the Lexus supercar came to life and so did many others but the rather angry looking Camaro chop-top that caught our eye never came into being. However two years late isn’t exactly the biggest delay and now it is here we shall see if it was all worth it.
The 2011 Camaro Convertible will be armed with the same engine options as its coupe counterpart including the SS’ 6.2 litre V8 with 420BHP. That means 0-6MPH in less than 5 seconds, a top speed of 155MPH and of course the ability to hear that rumbling V8 without being imprisoned inside the cockpit. Though it will drive like a bar of soap due to the extra weight, £18,700 is a bit of a bargain when it comes to what you get under the bonnet. Sales begin February next year of the US and expect it in the UK by mid-2011.
