Citroen now sell more cars in China than what they do in their home nation of France. The Asian market, for all manufacturers not just Citroen, is a rapidly expanding one and so more European brands are setting up shop a long way from home. Over there Citroen’s DS brand is separate from the rest of the company and promotes high quality and the very best of French design. The new Citroen DS 5LS is the latest model to join the range.
Based upon the same platform as the extravagant DS5 hatchback, the 5LS is a model specific to the Chinese market. The saloons front end is the canvas for a new design feature, bound for all DS models at some point, known as the “DS Wings.” incorporating the shape of the chrome grill into the headlights is reminiscent of the 1955 Citroen DS. Inside the cabin is treated to various toys including DVD player, touchscreen display and keyless entry. There are three petrol engines to choose from at launch; a naturally aspirate 136BHP VTI, a turbocharged 160BHP unit and the most powerful 200BHP option. The latter two of those three have automatic gearboxes.
The DS 5LS will not be coming to Europe.
