Were to sensible and got yourself a nice house, or did you do what the rest of us dreamt and bought all of the things you though were cool when you were a kid? James Bond’s Lotus Esprite submarine has to be one of the greatest movie cars of all time and one lucky chap has just bought it at auction. That person just so happens to be Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk.

Clearly chasing childhood dreams, Musk bout the Lotus sub for $966,560. The story of how it made its way to auction is an interesting one… The Lotus is an actual working submarine that was built for the filming of Roger Moore’s Bond flick The Spy Who Loved Me. After the film was completed the car was put into storage for 10 years, all prepaid by the studio. When the contract ended and nobody claimed the car it was put up for a blind action in 1989. Since it has been on display around the world before its current sale to Musk. The electric car billionaire intends to restore the Lotus submarine back to working order.
