F1 Cars Go All-Electric In 2014, Shocking…

Formula One is all about pushing boundaries and employing new technologies to gain a competitive edge. Much of what is developed in F1 ends up in your car at home. ABS, power steering, and aerodynamic aids all began life as prototype parts on these racers. But now the green party has got involved and the FIA are enforcing a technology that isn’t really to the advantage of the sport.

From 2014, when major rule changes come into force, cars will be made to switch to an all-electric mode in the pit lane. The induction of a larger KERS will allow this but the change also comes with the need of an onboard starter motor. Teams must be able to restart the engine at the end of the pit lane to continue without an external tool. Does this kill the spectacle of these precision instruments of performance screaming down the pits? Well thanks to electric drive we wont be hearing anything at all…
