We’ve seen a mind boggling variety of cars bearing the Bentley Continental moniker since the veteran British marque resurrected the famous old name in 2003. From the four-door Flying Spur to the fire-breathing Supersports, if you’ve never found a Continental variant that floats your boat, chances are you’ve probably been looking in the wrong place.
Of the current line-up, the Continental GT Speed edition has been the performance pace-setter in recent years. 2016 sees the arrival of a revamped and tweaked GT speed which promises to raise the performance bar higher that ever before.
For the 2016 edition, Bentley’s mighty 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 engine has been squeezed dry to harvest a further 7bhp and 15lb/ft torque over the standard model. This endows the new GT Speed with a heart-pumping 633 bhp and 620 lb/ft maximum torque from 2,000-5,000 rpm. Acceleration time is slashed accordingly, with the new GT Speed devouring 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. What’s more, its 206 mph top speed pegs it above the 2009 Supersports and its direct predecessor, the 2012 GT Speed Coupe, in the list of all time fastest Bentley Continental variants.
Joining the ranks of the all-new GT Speed is the Black Edition. This exclusive evolution of the Continental comes in both coupe or convertible guise and sports a smart set of high gloss black window openings, lamp bezels and 21” five-spoke wheels and brake calipers. A selection of four contrasting shades are available for the Black Edition’s front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser whilst inside, carbon fibre trim along the fascia, centre and roof consoles brings a dark, moody atmosphere to the opulent, leather-adorned cabin.
Order books are open right now, so a new Bentley Continental GT Speed or GT Speed Black Edition could be yours in time for Summer.
