Of late Ferrari road cars have really been something special. Technological advancements, handsome design, and Italian flare have all come together to produce some of the finest cars the prancing horse has ever built. Exiting stage left is the much loved 458 Italia and ushering in a new turbocharged era is this 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB.
At its heart is a new 3.9 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 661 BHP and 561lb ft of torque. This move away from natural aspiration is industry wide, but Ferrari claims that it has retained that Maranello magic. Performance is certainly what you would expect from a Ferrari with 0-62 MPH being achieved in just 3.0 seconds. Top speed is 205 MPH and to bring all of that speed to a stop the 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB is equipped with the same carbon brakes as LaFerrari. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
Whilst from a distance the new Ferrari 488 GTB may look similar to the 458 Italia, there are many crucial aerodynamic features. The large shoulder mounted intakes feed and cool the engine whilst deep channels behind the front grills hide steeply raked radiators. Skirts and fins manipulate the airflow round this Italian stallion. A large rear diffuser helps generate a lot of downforce and also possess active flaps to change its profile.
The 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB marks the beginning of a new generation of turbocharge mid-engine Ferraris. It can be yours for £183,974.
Whilst their road cars simply getting better with each incarnation, we are left with the same question we asked ourselves with the 458 Italia. How on Earth can you make this even better?
