The Gumpert Apollo was undoubtedly a brilliant piece of machinery; however it had the looks of someone who had been involved in a combine harvester horror story and then caught leprosy. It was that bad! Great car but its hellish looks put off many buyers. The German company aim to avoid the ugly stick with their new model.
Named the Tornate it still packs the same ferocious punch as the Apollo but in a much more palatable form. The 4.2 litre twin turbo V8 will surge 700BHP to the rear wheels of this sleek new shape. Gumpert say that this car is much more refined and focuses more on a touring capacity. That said those previous figures will make it quite hard to relax whilst being pinning to your seat. We will see the cars arrival in early 2012 along with an “alternate power” variant, a hybrid maybe?
