Hamilton Victorious As Vettel Deflates

Leading on from an exhilarating qualifying session the previous day, the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was set to be explosive. With McLaren back on form Red Bull for the first time this season looked to have a real challenger. Vettel pulled out all the stops claiming pole in the dying moments of quali pipping Jenson and Lewis to the post. Regardless of starting positions, it would be the race that would proved the spectacle.

Vettel looked to have made the perfect getaway launching his Red Bull into the first corner like a true world champion. Yet, by turn two it had all gone horribly wrong. A puncture sent the German into a spin and allowed the rest of the field to roar past. Limping back to the pits, the flapping carcass of the tyre further damaged Vettel’s car and rendered him unable to continue. The McLaren’s had the race in hand showing some all conquering pace despite Jenson Button having a lack of KERS. Would Vettel have won the race if he wasn’t so unfortunate? I have my doubts…

Lewis Hamilton drove supremely and claimed first followed by Alsonso and Button.
