Jaguar’s XJ220 was and still is an astonishing car. The 3.5 litre twin-turbo V6 could achieve 0-62MPH in 3.6 seconds and had a top speed of 200MPH. However, it could be argued that the XJ220 was a bit of a flop in that it was originally meant to have a V12 and was supposed to be capable of 220MPH. Despite this Jag produced and sold 281 units and even took it racing. In order for the homologated machine to enter various events the rules stipulated that six road going variants of the race car had to exist. Enter the XJ220S.
This, one of only six road going racers, is up for auction over in the USA at the moment. The body of the car is almost entirely carbon fibre making the XJ220S weigh just 1,000KG. The wider body, front splitter, rear diffuser and rear wing give it true downforce. Don’t go thinking that the engine was untouched, oh no, that now pumps out 700BHP.
