We’ve been anticipating a drop-top follow-up to the mighty Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce for a number of months now. The limited edition SV coupe, a faster, trimmer, more powerful version of Lamborghini’s flagship supercar, wowed the crowds at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and sold out quicker than you can say “Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce”.
With arch-rivals Ferrari set to unveil the new 488 Spider at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, the German motoring extravaganza would appear to be as good a place as any for Lambo to launch the highly anticipated new Superveloce Roadster. Alas, the top-down SV is indeed on the way but the newest Raging Bull won’t be rubbing shoulders with the Prancing Horse in Frankfurt.
Instead, and rather aptly, the official world premiere of the Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce Roadster will come not under the roof of a vast expo centre in Germany but under the cloudless blue skies in California. A very privileged selection of journalists and supercar enthusiasts will gather in the sumptuous surroundings of the Quail Lodge on 14 August during Monterey Car Week to catch a glimpse of the SV Roadster’s grand unveiling.
As with its coupe equivalent, the open-cockpit Superveloce’s production run will be strictly limited, with official sources confirming only 500 models will be built.
The SV Roadster is expected to feature the same upgraded 6.5 litre V12 powertrain that sees the Superveloce coupe crank up the standard Aventador’s power from 690bhp to 740bhp, meaning it should dash from 0-62 in just 2.8 seconds.
Further details on spec and pricing will be announced at its official debut at the Quail, by which time it’s a pretty safe bet that all 500 of these special edition road-munching roadsters will have found new homes.
