This year’s Paris motor show was undoubtedly one of the best ever as it brought us exciting new concepts from Jaguar, Lamborghini and also Ferrari’s limited edition SA Aperta. But by far and away the biggest surprise and excitement came from Lotus as they brought 5 new cars each redefining the brand. However amidst all the excitement everyone appears to have missed a 6th concept car Lotus brought to France. The rather angry looking City Car Concept.
Now that Lotus has transformed from road legal track-day specialists into fully fledged Supercar manufacturer, it was only a matter of time before the environmental police got on their case. Lotus will have to considerably reduce their carbon emissions and the plan is to produce this tiny electric hybrid car. This may be an Eco-mobile but it’s a Lotus Eco-mobile thus it has sporting promise. The car is battery powered with a small petrol engine for range extension, but unlike other ice cube savers it is rear wheel drive. 0-62MPH is done in an acceptable 9 seconds and has a top speed of 100MPH. Seating for in its rather seductively cheeky shell the City Car has a range of 310 miles thanks to it being a hybrid.
Unlike Aston Martin’s Cygnet we feel that this doesn’t cause an impurity in the new line-up, it extends it.
