To commemorate it’s 20th anniversary, Lotus have revealed the Lotus Elise 20th Anniversary Special Edition. In September 1995, Lotus showed the world the first Elise at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it has been around ever since. It has been famed for it’s raw simplicity and being a pure drivers car, with very little in the way of creature comforts. This Special Edition is based on the Lotus Elite S Club Racer and weighs in at a minuscule 914kg, 10kg lighter than the standard car.
Because of this tiny weight, a 1.8-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine with 217bhp is all that’s required to get this car from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 145mph. In the corners, however, is where this car really shines. This small engine and less weight means a combined mpg of 47.6 can be achieved.
Available equipment as standard consists of lightweight sports seats finished off in leather or Alcantara with colour stitching, a lightweight centre console and lightweight matte black wheels. A sport mode is also available to increase throttle response and alter the traction.
The rear diffuser, roll hoop cover, wing mirrors and the rear section are finished in matte black whilst four main colours – green, blue, silver and yellow – are available to choose from. In terms of price, there is a premium of £2700 over the Elise S, putting the 20th Anniversary Edition at £39,900. However, Lotus do claim £5150 of standard kit has been put in this new version.
