Lotus have unveiled the new and improved version of the Evora 400 and lets cut right to the chase, it’s the fastest production car Lotus have ever made. The prestigious British manufacturer has created a lighter more focused version which has a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine with, unsurprisingly, 400bhp, which is 55bhp more than the Evora S. In keeping with company’s tradition of ‘less is more’, Lotus have found 50 pounds of unnecessary weight to be stripped off on what was already a very light car.
There is more good news as well, Lotus haven’t simply strapped in a more powerful engine, taken out more creature comforts and said ‘away you go’. Whilst they were at work, the engineers re-adjusted the suspension, created a new limited slip differential, reworked the electronics, improved downforce, replaced the brakes and tuned the gearbox. It is safe to assume that Lotus have really given some consideration and thought into the Evora 400, and they have even altered the styling to accommodate new doors for ease of access as well as revised styling on the inside.
The outcome of all these changes creates a car that will go from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 186mph. In context, this means that the new Lotus Evora 400 will lap the Lotus test track a huge six seconds faster than it’s predecessor. To keep up with an expected high demand – and we wouldn’t be surprised if there was – Lotus aim to produce 70 cars a week rather than the current 45 cars over the next few months as a result of a 50 percent increase in the workforce.
