Looking at the motorsport of rallying today you can see that all the major championships are dominated by small family hatchbacks. Ok, so they aren’t exactly what you would call standard, masses of power and all-wheel-drive are among the modifications, but it does take the shine off the once glorious sport dominated by lightweight-fire breathing-Group-B cars. The closest thing to that category these days is the R-GT class and Lotus have something for it.
Reentering the rally world, still motivated by their winning championship year in 1981, this is the Lotus R-GT. Based on the new Lotus Exige this car is a hardcore machine modified for charging over just about any terrain. Powered by a 3.5 litre V6, the car churns out 302BHP. As we know the engine could produce more but due to regulations the air flow has been restricted. Lotus themselves are not entering a factory team at this moment in time but the car is available for other to purchase and compete in.
