These days a manufacturer tends to expand far beyond the market from which they originate. BMW no longer just make rear-wheel-drive saloons, Aston Martin build a city car and Lexus even dabbled in the supercar market. Today Maserati enter the 4X4 market for reasons unknown to man. Yes the legendary sports car builder is turning its hand to a market shared with Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Range Rover.
Named the Kubang, this Italian lump shares components with the Fiat groups recently acquired Jeep brand. Billed as a “sports-luxury vehicle” the new car isn’t exactly what we would call elegant. In fact it appears to share some of its visual elements with a mangled horse. However, Italian luxury is Italian luxury and with an 8-speed automatic gearbox cruising the motorway is sure to be a dream. Thats presuming you are inside the Kubang and not witnessing the horror from afar.
