The Mayor of London and generally entertaining pillock, he can’t help it, Boris Johnson has added four Mitsubishi i-MiEV’s to the transport for London fleet. These four are to be the first of a thousand that he wants added to his fleet over the next few years. The idea behind this is that Boris hopes that he can make London the number one EV city in Europe and by him using them internally it should encourage others to do the same.
The i-MiEV could be argued as the first affordable yet practical fully electric car for the masses. Its range is stipulated at 81 miles and the car can seat four fully grown adults. The Mayor also want to implement 25,000 charging points by 2015 but how realistic this target may be is up for debate. As far as I can see the electric car has much more evolution to do before we all trade in our polar bear slaughterers for one. You can’t expect people to let go of their motoring convenience without at least offer the same practicality as they already have.
