The McLaren F1 was and still is one of the most astonishing machines on wheels. For more than a decade the supercar was the fastest road legal car in existence. On top of its achievements on the road the F1 also left its mark on the world of motorsport taking the Le Mans 24 hour by storm on its debut. The British manufacturer aims to make a similar racing success out of the new MP4-12C supercar that has received nothing but top marks from critics thus far. Today McLaren announced their plans for the GT3 car during 2011/2012.
20 MP4-12C GT3’s are to be prepared for various teams ready for multiple events in 2012. McLaren will be offer all teams support in their campaigns including the use of their Formula One simulation systems. McLaren themselves will race the car during 2011 to insure the finished product is every bit as spectacular on track as its predecessor. The 3.8 litre V8 racer will also be making an appearance at this year’s Goodwood festival of speed.
