McLaren is a symbol for British engineering taking on the world. Their last road-legal product held the record for fastest production car for over a decade and it is widely accepted as one of the most admirable pieces of machinery ever produced by man. McLaren are getting back in the supercar game with a product that might not be the worlds fastest but does cut into the most competitive prestige car market.
The McLaren MP4-12C with it’s Formula One derived tech, 3.8 litre turbocharged V8 and 0-124MPH of less them 10 seconds must take on the Ferrari 458. The 458 is nothing short of perfection in terms of a mid-mounted V8 supercar. It dances through the corners with ease and is just unbelievably manageable. Just like on the grid of a Grand Prix these who rivals must outdo one another and on paper things look fairly even. But what about the cost? Well factoring in the increase in tax next year when the MP4-12C will make it to market it turns out to be around £3,000 cheaper than the Italian. The actual figure is £168,500 and thinking about the technology you get it does seem reasonable, for a supercar that is. As for what one out of the two we prefer, that will have to wait until next year.
