Although the McLaren F1 is a true legend to any automotive enthusiast, and quite rightly so, its spiritual successor is every bit as impressive. The McLaren P1 is one of the most technologically advanced cars ever built utilising the very latest Formula One know-how. However, its performance is limited by one thing… The P1 has to comply with the laws that govern what is road legal and what isn’t. Ever wondered what the car would be like if the British company let it off of its leash? Welcome to the McLaren P1 GTR.
Revealed at Pebble Beach, this is the McLaren P1 GTR. Following in the footsteps, or tyre marks, of the McLaren F1 GTR this track-only variations of the car is claimed to be the “best drivers car in the world on track.” Costing £1,980,000 and only available to existing McLaren P1 customers, the GTR is lower, wider and more powerful than the road car. Power comes from a 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 engine and an electric motor for a total output of 986BHP. The aerodynamics have been heavily reworked with much more aggressive intakes and channels. The McLaren P1 GTR also features a large rear wing that is DRS enabled just like the Formula One cars of today.
