Pricing and specifications have been announced for the new Mercedes-Benz SL roadster before it comes to UK showrooms. The new SL will come in four variants – the SL 400, SL 500, AMG SL 63 and AMG SL 65.
Mercedes-Benz SL 400
The bottom of the range SL 400 comes in AMG Line trim and starts with an on the road price of £73,805. For all this money you will get a 4.0-litre V6 engine, which produces 367 bhp, 34 bhp more than its predecessor, meaning a 0-62 mph time of 4.9 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz SL 500
Like the 400, the SL 500 comes as standard in AMG Line trim but comes with bags more power. Propelled by a 455 bhp 4.6-litre V8 the SL 500 gets to 62mph in just 4.3 seconds and is available from £82,850.
Mercedes-AMG SL 63
Moving well into the realms of some serious performance, the first offering from AMG for the SL boats a 5.5-litre V8 engine and chucks out 585bhp meaning 0-62mph is over in 4.1 seconds. The SL 63 is priced at £114,100
Mercedes-AMG SL 65
At the top of the SL tree perches a 630 bhp beast. Sitting in the territory of some of the biggest supercar names, the SL 65 has a huge 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 630 bhp meaning 0-62 is done in 4 seconds flat. All yours for £173,295.
On top of these impressive statistics, the SL 400 and SL 500 have ditched the 7G-Tronic transmission and now have a 9G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox as standard. The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 comes with the AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed automatic gearbox whereas the SL 65 has opted for the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission.
The SL is also well equipped as standard with the none AMG variants available with Apple CarPlay, highbeam assist, parking pilot, dynamic select, 18-inch alloy wheels, active break assist and more. On top of all this the SL 63 and SL 65 adds a high performance breaking system, AMG dynamic select, AMG performance steering wheel, sports suspension and sports exhaust system.
The SL roadster looks to bring some stiff competition in their respective classes with good performance, quality and equipment. The SL 65 will have to offer more than that however to take on competitors in that price range, but that huge V12 and all that power is a very exciting prospect indeed.
