Seat appear to have lost their identity within the Volkswagen group. Whilst Skoda represents great value, Audi a more premium brand and VW being the “peoples car” middle ground, where does that leave Seat? That question is one the VW board will be mulling over for the next few years, but something that has never been in doubt is how good their Seat Leon Cupra models have been. The Spanish hot hatchbacks with plenty of poke are very capable of putting a smile on your face and now there is a new one!
Or, in fact, two new cars… A lower powered 261BHP SC variant is the foundation of the 2014 model, however, the Cupra 280 is the most powerful car that Seat has ever made with 276BHP. Both machines are powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine and both also come in five door or three door body styles. The Cupra 280 will dart from 0-62MPH in an impressive 5.7 seconds and go onto an electronically limited top speed of 155MPH. 44MPG, some boy racer body parts and prices starting at £25,690 the Cupra has still got what it takes to be a hot hatch hero.
