The all new Ford Mustang is available in the UK for the first time in it’s 50 year life-span and will arrive in late Autumn. From £28,995, the Mustang is a very tempting choice if you have the money to spend and with it’s performance figures just been announced, you’ll be very hard pushed to find something this fast for less. At the top of the engine food chain sits the 415 bhp 5.0-litre V8 version and is capable of going from 0-62 mph in just 4.8 seconds, making is the fastest ever accelerating Ford Coupé to be sold in Europe. This astonishing time is aided by Ford’s launch control system for maximum acceleration off the line. Lower down the chain site the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, which produces 313bhp and can hit 62 mph from a stand still in only 5.8 seconds, which isn’t exactly pedestrian and is also able to achieve fuel economy of 35mpg.
A Performance Pack comes as standard in the new Mustang in Europe that offers improved brakes and cooling, whereas a refined body and chassis help to improve the driving feel. As well as the two choices of engine, customers can also choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. Although the traditionalists may want to opt for the 5.0-litre V8 option, it does also mean parting with a hefty £505 annual road tax due to it’s high emissions. On both the Coupé and convertible models standard equipment includes uprated brakes, automatic headlights, dual-zone climate control, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED rear headlights, an eight inch colour touchscreen, a nine-speaker stereo setup and Ford’s SYNC 2 voice-control – so you are certainly getting plenty in the way of technology when you part with your £30,000. There is also a choice of 10 paint colours to customise your Mustang how you choose.
For the price then, there really is very little that can compete with the new Ford Mustang, particularly performance wise, unless you’re willing to eat half the wildlife in your local area in an Aerial Atom. A 0-62 time in less than five seconds for this price range really is incredible and with 1,200 orders already made for UK customers alone – the Mustang’s long awaited journey across the atlantic will be welcomed by many.
