Mazda have revealed that the all-new Mazda 2 will be the fourth Mazda to have the ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design theme. It will also have a complete SKYACTIV line up which means they will be ultra efficient and lightweight. The economical supermini is scheduled for launch in early 2015 in Europe with five doors. It also boasts a huge amount of cutting-edge technology such as enhanced human machine interface or HMI, Active Driving Display and a seven-inch display.
The new Mazda 2 has the “winning combination” of “performance, fuel economy, safety and driving fun” as well as it potentially being more agile than it’s predecessor accord to Mazda.
Three petrol engines and a single diesel engine are available, all 1.5-litre with the entry-level SKYACTIV-G producing 74bhp and reaching 0-62mph in 12.1 seconds and to a top speed of 106mph. The next in the range produces 89bhp, which means 0-62 is dealt with in 9.4 seconds and an extra 4 mph added to the top speed of the lowest model, and can also achieve 62.7mpg. The final petrol model produces 113bhp and returns 57.6mpg. It is also the fastest model in the range being able to hit 124mph and go from 0-62 in 8.7 seconds. Finally the diesel SKYACTIV-D version produces 76bhp but has a lot more torque than the petrol variants, allowing it to go from 0-62 in 10.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 111mph. This model will also return 83mpg.
There are claims that the new 2’s interior is “remarkably spacious” and seems well thought out ergonomically, clearly influenced by the Mazda 3.
Pricing for the all-new Mazda 2 has yet to be released.
