The Vauxhall Maloo pick-up truck has been given a new supercharged V8 engine as well as receiving mechanical and aesthetic alterations for the new 2016 model. Power in comparison to the old Maloo has been significantly heightened – the 6.2-litre engine produces 529bhp, 104bhp more than the previous model. This makes the LSA Maloo the fastest commercial vehicle on sale in the UK, Vauxhall claim, with a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds.
Alongside this huge level of power, the Maloo also has a high-flow exhaust system with better cooling and stiffer springs and dampers to cope with all the power. There is also a new rear suspension module to improve braking.
Exterior revisions include a redesigned front bumper and black air vents on the bonnet as well as new 20-inch alloy wheels. Standard equipment includes satellite navigation, Bluetooth, leather trim, a limited slip differential and launch control for the manual models. The Maloo is also capable of carrying 540kgs in weight.
Despite a 529bhp pick-up truck seeming ludicrous, in the age of electric, hydrogen and hybrid cars it is refreshing to see from time to time a big 6.2-litre V8 put in a pick-up. Vauxhall have even joked that the Maloo isn’t for people that are worried about fuel economy of emissions, it’s all about the muscle.
The LSA Maloo is available for customers now with prices starting at £54,000.
