After almost a year of development, Audi have finished their one-off A8 L Extended, which will be delivered to a European customer. The six-seater build-to-order model measures in at 6.36 metres in length, with a 1.1 metre wheelbase extension over the standard A8 L. Audi have gone to great lengths incorporate all the familiar luxuries and feel of the flagship A8 L whilst considerably extending it’s proportions. Following the completion of the extended model, Audi has now received further requests from buyers for the custom model.
The year invested into the model was mainly due to problems concerning both safety and rigidity when creating the super-long body. Despite it’s blown up size, the Audi A8 L Extended remains relatively light due do it’s mostly aluminium body with Audi’s space frame design. To maintain a contemporary shape, the entire body from the A-pillar back has been reshaped. Audi’s designers have also embedded a 2.40-metre glass panel in the roof to further accentuate the feel of incredible space.
Each of the six seats are upholstered in velvet beige Valcona leather. The second and third rows feature electrically adjustable individual seats. The third row also boasts a centre console, a rear seat entertainment display and a cool box.
The unique A8 is powered by a 306bhp 3.0-litre TFSI engine, which delivers 440 Nm of torque. This means the 6.36-metre saloon is capable of getting from 0-62mph in 7.1 seconds and will max out at an electronically capped top speed of 155mph. The 15-spoke, 19-inch wheels conceal the braking system found in the Audi S8 to ensure strong deceleration for the 2,418kg luxury saloon.
