The Peugeot 308 won International Car of the Year in 2014, and quite rightly so. This hatchback was another strong sign that the French brand possessed keen ambitions of recapturing the market. Driving it you can tell that its chassis is well engineered and has plenty of potential in terms of performance variations. We have seen a 308 R concept car, but what Peugeot have brought to Shanghai is a concept that is even more enticing and arguably more relevant to todays performance cars. This is the Peugeot 308 R Hybrid Concept.
Here are the headlines: A 267BHP 1.6 litre turbocharge petrol engine and two electric motors combine to produce 493BHP. With all of that power and 538lb ft of torque the Peugeot 308 R Hybrid will do 0-62MPH in just 4.0 seconds. That is within a whisker of supercar performance! Sporting a two-tone paint job and an aggressive styling package, this is no hot hatchback… This is the birth of the mega-hatch. Developed by the legendary Peugeot Sport team, who did an amazing job on the RCZ R, this concept is a fully functioning example of what could be the future of fast hatchbacks. A six speed automatic gearbox serves as transmission. Despite its excessive performance the Peugeot 308 R Hybrid only emits 70g/km of CO2.
Peugeot say that this car could make production if a business case can be made.
