These are tough economic times for the automotive industry and indeed the world. Businesses are folding, are people struggling to make a living and continuing pressure from competitors makes for an uphill struggle. Peugeot today have announced that they will be pulling out of sports car racing.
This is a heavy blow to events such as the Le Mans 24 hours where the past few years have seen titanic battles between Peugeot and Audi. Peugeot have already developed their 2012 car and so this sudden withdrawal has shocked the motorsport world, especially as the Peugeot team have championed many events. “This decision has been taken in the context of a difficult economic environment in Europe,” Peugeot said in a statement on Wednesday. “Peugeot has chosen to concentrate resources on its sales performance in 2012.”
It is a great shame.
