Peugeot Reveals Worlds First Diesel Hybrid

SHARE

The diesel engine has come a long way from being the vegetable oil powered machine that Rudolph Diesel created. Just the other month sales of diesel cars topped that of our much loved petrol’s showing that all their little foibles, such as canal boat soundtrack, have been amended over the years.  In general a diesel will not only last longer than a petrol engine but also carry you further on one tank of fuel, so why isn’t there a diesel hybrid? Peugeot steps into the void…

The new Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 is the world’s first attempt at a diesel hybrid car. The cars main source of power is a 2.0 litre HDi engine that produces 163BHP; this is paired with a 37BHP electric motor giving a total output of 200BHP. The 3008 can run in all electric mode and combined with the conventional engine it can do 74.4MPG. As the name suggests the car also has four-wheel-drive yet it only produces 99g/km of CO2.

We are still unsure of the 3008’s looks but we have to congratulate Peugeot in being the first.
