UK pricing and specifications have been announced for the Renault Twingo GT, developed by Renault Sport, before it is available to order from the 1st December. The Twingo GT will be priced at £13,775 on-the-road and will be launched alongside a revised version of the Dynamique S model, which is priced at £12,205.
Renault say the Twingo GT builds on its strengths as a nimble and agile car by giving it more power whilst remaining well priced. It’s unique layout of being rear-engined and rear-wheel drive means that interior space is optimised as well as making it easier to park and carry out U-turns thanks to the turning arc of the front wheels not being hindered by the engine. The Twingo is a five-door city car as standard and is also available with an array of personalisation options for the customer to choose from.
Inspired by the 2013 Renault Twin’Run concept, the GT sports ‘Twin’Air’ 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and takes other design cues with its air intakes, rear bumper diffuser which accommodates the twin exhaust and also the Renault Sport markings on the side and rear of the car.
Taking the most powerful 898cc engine in the standard Twingo, Renault Sport engineers have tuned it to produce 110bhp and 170Nm of torque in the GT model. This is thanks to a modified turbo, uprated fuel pump, revised engine mapping and a specially designed freer flowing twin silencer exhaust. This means that the Renault Twingo GT gets from 0-62mph in 9.6 seconds and its sub-nine second time to get from 50-75mph places it amongst the best in its class, Renault claim. The modified engine has been paired with a five-speed manual transmission with new ratios to exploit all of its new, shiny power.
To match the upgrade in power, the GT also receives a tuned chassis setup, stiffer shock absorbers, a large diameter anti-roll bar and 20mm lower ride height than the standard Twingo. The alloys are accompanied by Yokohama BluEarth tyres to make sure it stays on the tarmac.
Despite being a more driver-orientated car, good levels or standard equipment and safety features remain. The GT gets the R&GO application, which turns your smartphone into a touchscreen including a sat-nav. Standard features also include ABS, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist as well as a speed limiter and cruise control. Further equipment includes climate control, automatic lights and front wipers, fog lights with cornering function and rear parking sensors.
To differentiate the Renault Twingo GT from the standard car, exterior alterations include extra tinted rear windows and a body kit which consists of side skirts, extended wheel arches and a rear diffuser. It is also available in a new Blaze Orange metallic paint alongside other options including Crystal White, Lunar Grey or Diamond Black. The GT also receives contrasting stripes, starting on the bonnet and extending over the length of the roof. The stripes are finished in black on the Blaze Orange paintwork and are orange with the other body colours.
Further options on the GT model include GT roof and bonnet decals, an electric panoramic fabric folding sunroof, lane departure warning system, heated front seats and the Techno pack with the R-Link multimedia system that incorporates a 7-inch touchscreen with TomTom navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, voice control and reverse parking camera and sensors.
