Over the past few years Saab has been in all sorts of hellish situations. After continuously making a loss and being found to have one of the least efficient production lines in the industry GM decided enough was enough. Saab went up for sale and various parties including F1 bosses and celebrities showed an interest but that was as far as they dared go. It was looking very likely the company would be liquidated bringing an end to the longstanding Swedish company. But help came in the unlikely form of dutch supercar maker Spyker who have since made a big success of the 9-5. Well now there is a an estate variant… And we like it a lot!
Based on the 9-5 saloon and to be unveiled at Geneva, the 9-5 Sportwagon is quite possibly the most attractive estate car we have seen. Bold unique styling make it look like a spaceship from the 51st century and according to Saab the cars sporty handling should make it drive like one too. Designed to be practical and luxurious cars like this could keep the company out of trouble for a long time to come.
The Sportwagon goes on sale September, more details in March.
