The Toyota Hilux is notoriously capable of surviving the most inhospitable environments on Earth. It has often been called the “AK-47” of the motoring world as you can drop it, drown it, take it to war or even the coldest place in the world and it will still function. Famously proved by the infamous Top Gear, a modified Hilux even managed to make it to the north pole. Expeditionaries have realized the cars potential and proven it to be the fastest, most cost effective, most reliable method of getting to either of the poles.
Recently a team of scientists took four Hilux on a trip of 4,600KM across Antarctica though temperatures lower than -56ºC to the south pole. The cars unmodified 3.0 litre engine provided much lower fuel consumption than any expeditionary vehicle before it. This amazing machine was the perfect candidate as not only is it rugged but it can carry 1.5 tons of equipment and tow up to 3 tons.
If Santa has problems this evening you can expect this indestructible icon to take Rudolph’s place.
