We are increasingly seeing mid-life model refreshes or “facelift” cars becoming more in-depth with their changes. It was once a simple job of a new set of bumpers and some headlights, but with competition being so strong in the marketplace, progress must be made with every iteration. Increasingly we see options added, changes to chassis and in some cases all-new engines added. The BMW 3 Series is hugely popular and its facelift this year goes far beyond aesthetics. 2015 BMW 3 Series Facelift Brings Big Changes.
Of course there has been some alterations in body styling. Front and rear bumpers are new bringing with them altered LED headlights. Bigger changes are to be found in the adaptive suspension where each of the three modes have been tuned for increased handling performance.
The engine line-up has been modified with the addition of a three cylinder 318i. This unit is sourced from Mini and is turbocharged whilst only emitting 116g/km CO2. The 320i now has 181BHP and the 330i produces 248BHP. If you fancy the 3.0 litre 340i with 322BHP it will crack 0-62MPH in just 5.1 seconds. A new 318d with 158BHP is one of the cleanest models proclaiming CO2 figures of just 106g/km. However, if you want the car that is kindest to the environment then the 2015 BMW 3 Series 330e is for you. This plug-in hybrid will run up to 75MPH on electricity alone before the engine kicks in and combined it emits just 49g/km CO2. A range of 20 miles on pure electric can be had.
