American muscle cars are an extremely definitive breed amongst the automotive ecosystem. As well as being symbolic of the nation that spawned them, their bold designs, powerful engines, and relatively affordable prices make them fan favourites. There has been a longstanding rivalry between the Camaro and Mustang in the states. Bar fights, family divisions, arguments in the streets, many caused by this clash of the titans. Chevrolet aim to slay the Mustang, and anything else for that matter, once and for all with the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
The previous ZL1 was a mighty muscle car, but the world has moved on. People expect more from performance cars today than ever before and so there is a strong focus on brain as well as brawn with the new car. Powered by a supercharged 6.2 litre V8 engine producing 640 HP and 640lb ft of torque, it is a serious machine. That power is sent to the rear wheels via a traditional 6 speed manual transmission or an all-new 10 speed automatic. This gearbox will spread into other Chevy models as time goes on. 20 inch forged alloy wheels are wrapped in Goodyear tyres unique to the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Stopping all of that performance potential is a set of large six piston Brembo brakes. Being based upon the latest generation Camaro, this 2017 ZL1 is 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor. 0-62 MPH stats have yet to be announced.
Visually the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is menacing with intakes large enough to swallow children. Broad shoulders house an aggressive aerodynamic package and a “flow-tie” sits upon the nose. Brutish would be an understatement.
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will be officially revealed at the New York motor show this month and go on sale late this year. Your move Ford Mustang…
