The world is a fast moving place and the automotive industry is faster moving still. These days if you fall behind you get left behind and so each new generation of car pushes boundaries much further than its predecessor. I actually attended the unveiling of the current Vauxhall Insignia at the 2008 London motor show and it has become a company car favourite today. Since then key rivals have pushed upmarket and so this saloon in its latest incarnation follows suit. This is the new Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport.
Taking pointers from the Monza concept car, this new second generation Insignia appears to have a wider stance and a more individual look. It retains a definitive body crease along its length, but incorporates details such as a wide grill and LED lights.
The cabin marks a big step forward with increased material quality and a far plusher design. The driver sits 30mm lower than before and the seats can be optioned with heater and massaging functions. Increased interior space is a given.
The engine range is currently topped by a 247 BHP 2.0 litre unit with all wheel drive. Power is sent to the wheels via an new 8 speed automatic transmission. An all-new 1.5 litre petrol will be offered alongside a 1.6 and 2.0 litre diesel. Full details on drivetrains will be announced at the Geneva motor show next year.
This Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport will go on sale June 2017.
