Top Gear as we know it may be no more and the future of the show is up in the air after “Clarkson Gate.” What happens next to the three amigos has not been written, but in the interim each has been trying to keep busy. Jeremy would appear to be cooking up a new motoring show, Richard Hammond has put together series of videos about being bored and James May has been giving amusing interviews on his doorstep. He has also had time to place an order for the very last Ferrari 458 Speciale.
The Ferrari 458 Speciale is arguably the swan song of the Luca di Montezemolo era of Ferrari. Winning countless awards, this hardcore variation of the 458 is powered by the same 4.5 litre V8 engine but in this guise produces 597BHP. 0-62MPH takes just 3 seconds.
James May has purchased the very last Ferrari 458 Speciale before production ends in readiness for the 488 GTB. “I’ve ordered the last one – all I need is a job to pay for it” he told the Sunday Times. He was about to order the car in a tasteful blue with gold alloy wheels, but then… “Just moments before I signed the order form and committed myself totally and irreversibly, I had a sudden change of heart. I ordered it in bright orange.”
