Worlds Fastest Cars, The Top 10 at the Dawn of 2011

The claim to the title of worlds fastest production car is not only something very prestigious but also something that certainly won’t do any harm to sales figures. So at the beginning of a new decade where no doubt freshly laid boundaries will be broken in the automotive world throughout, who do these new contenders have to compete with?

10. Ferrari 599 GTO: 208MPH

Ferrari’s most powerful car they have ever produced for the road armed with an Italian V12. This cars unrelenting acceleration pushes it into the top 10. Costing nearly £300,000 the car is also the fastest road going prancing horse to ever lap Ferrari’s test track.

9. Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV: 212MPH

The swan song to the outgoing Murcielago, the SV with a raging Lamborghini V12 is one of the automotive worlds all-time greats. The car that many of this generations children had pinned to their wall it will be remembered for its striking appearance, ferocious noise and the impossibility of parking it.

8. Pagani Zonda F: 215MPH

Bursting onto the scene in 1999 with the Zonda in concept Pagani have always strived to be in the same league as other Italian legends such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. Over the past 10 years it has succeeded truly making a name for itself and giving the previously mentioned giants something to worry about. The Zonda F is an all carbon fibre effort and with Mercedes-Benz power can achieve mind-blowing performance!

7. Jaguar XJ220: 217MPH

To many the XJ220 was a huge disappointment. The world was promised a V12 British hyper car but instead received an over priced V6 with parts borrowed from nearly every car under the sun. However the projected performance became a reality and despite being produced in 1992 it still can compete with todays monsters.

6. Ferrari Enzo: 217MPH

This car has been seen as the ultimate Ferrari since its launch. Mention it to any child and they know exactly what you are talking about. Baring the founders name the Enzo never disappointed providing F1 thrills in an aerodynamically superior shell. This car turned out to be a good investment as only 399 were produced and the write-off rate only increases.

5. McLaren F1: 240MPH

The McLaren F1 is a legend on four wheels. Formula One technology flows through its design and for decades this was the worlds fastest car. Built to be much more than a speed machine the F1 positioned the driver in the centre of the car for the best driving position. Seating three this is the most practical car you will find on the list.

4. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo: 248MPH

American muscle provides plenty of power and that is exactly what you need to cut through the air as it becomes denser at speed. Packing twin-turbo’s this cars monstrous engine roars all the way to 248MPH. Just don’t expect great MPG.

3. Koenigsegg CCXR Edition: 254MPH

From Sweden of all places the Koenigsegg CCX was quite the machine. Yet make it out of carbon fibre and tinker with the engine and the CCXR is a force to be reckoned with. 1018BHP and over 716 lb-ft of torque this machine is almost beyond words.

2. SSC Ultimate Aero: 257MPH

Knocking the original Bugatti Veyron off its perch by 1MPH this all American effort may not be refined but it sure is fast! 0-62MPH is done in 2.7 seconds thanks to a twin-turbo V8 and 1183BHP. The figures speak for themselves…

1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: 267MPH

Taking the crown and keeping the soon to be finished Bugatti Veyron at the top, the Super Sport will make up the last 30 of the 300 cars that will be produced. Refined all the way to its top speed and equipped with an air-break that has the stopping power of a Ford Fiesta this car is one of mans greatest engineering achievements.
