Every car no matter its shape, size or price has a lifecycle that must come to an end. When a manufacturer brings a models production to a close it is often to make way for the next generation, as is the case with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. We have seen several version of this excellent gull-winged GT from special editions to the properly mental Black Series. 2015 will see this cars successor making 2014 its last year of production. The Mercedes-Benz SLS Final Edition is the machines last Hurrah before driving off into the sunset.

Powered by that mighty 6.3 litre V8 engine, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Final Edition produces 583BHP. This special car receives new alloy wheels and interior tweaks. Externally it can be differentiated from the standard SLS via its black bonnet, carbon fibre front splitter and huge carbon rear wing. The Final Edition will number just 350 and is available in both coupe and convertible.

Over that past few years the SLS has been one of our favourite supercars and it will be sorely missed. Read our first review of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG HERE.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is right up there with some of the best cars to ever be produced. It has all of theatrics that a supercar requires as it booms and growls accompanied by those iconic gullwing doors. It also has the tranquility and comfort of a Mercedes making for a very pleasant package indeed. What if you were declared clinically insane? What if your natural reaction to seeing cress was to set it alight it? Well Mercedes’ equally crazy Black Series division might just have something for you.

Fresh from the bowels of hell itself, this is the much anticipated Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series. It isn’t what you would call subtle is it? With looks inspired by a GT3 racing car and a 6.2 litre throbbing heart producing 622BHP, it would be fair to describe it as the most intimidating machine you shall lay eyes in for some time. Under the swollen arches technology is hard at work try to tame the beast with carbon ceramic brakes and adjustable coil over suspension. It is lighter, faster, harder and much more willing to drink your blood than the standard car.

To say that this machine deviates from the social norm would be an understatement, but do you know what? I bloody love it!

Mercedes-Benz are a company that could be described as ruthlessly efficient. Their products are often executed to such a high degree of competency that they are often guaranteed success stories. The SL has been one such model becoming a machine that has worn the three pointed star for 45 years. Todays top-dog of the SL line if of course the SLS. The modern gullwing beast does not fail to impress, showing its beauty to not be only skin deep. To mark the 45th anniversary of the SL, Mercedes has produced the ultimate GT3 racing SLS.

This very rare car will only number 5 once the production run comes to an end, something that the €446,250 price tag reflects. Unique to this GT3 is the matte paintwork and a few aerodynamic tweaks. The carbon fibre bodied racing car has already shown itself to be competitive out on track and so many potential buyer may see this as the ultimate weekend track toy. 6.2 litres of AMG brute force? Yes please!

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a biblical machine. It has all the theatrics of a supercar with that elongated bonnet, gullwing doors and not to mention bellowing V8. But imagine what such a car would be like if you took away its voice. The 6.2 litre motor is very much the beating heart of this car and so when Mercedes announced an all-electric variant I wasn’t too sure.

Well, whatever drama has been deducted by that missing V8 has been replaced by 740BHP. That’s right, this electric car outguns its petrol counterpart in the power department, a first for any plug-in. Sending those ponies to all four wheels whilst churning out 738lb-ft of torque means that the much heavier Electric Drive can get to 62MPH in the same 3.8 seconds it takes the petrol. Charging this SLS via the mains will take 20 hours but this can be reduced by 3 hours with the aid of a quick charge station.

There is no doubt that this car represents a massive leap forward for electric cars in terms of performance and desirability, however, it will cost you… €416,500 to be exact!

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a very fine car indeed. Its sleek design with bold detailing is one that highlights the cars function for performance. Donning gull-wing doors, the machine that echoes back to its forefather makes a statement to the rest of the supercar fraternity. We wouldn’t change very much about this car at all, but Mercedes have seen fit to introduce a more advanced incarnation of their flagship SLS.

Named the SLS AMG GT, the cars signature piece is still that bellowing 6.2 litre V8 under the bonnet, but now it produces 583BHP. As a result the SLS GT will do 0-62MPH in a startling 3.6 seconds. This car is not an addition to the SLS range as it replaces both coupe and convertible for 2013. The transmission is still the same 7 speed affair but the suspension has been completely revised. The interior experiences a few minor tweaks keeping you in pure German luxury all the way up to the SLS AMG GT’s electronically limited top speed of 197MPH.

We have a lot of time for double Formula One world champion Mika Hakkinen. Beyond simply being a top class driver, he is a very well mannered man and that always scores highly in our books. Despite leaving Formula One in 2001, the Finn has been relatively inactive in other forms of motorsport, yet keeps busy managing other drivers. His next challenge is the Le Mans series.

His links with Mercedes-Benz will see him behind the wheel of a glorious SLS AMG GT3 car for the 1,000KM of Zhuhai in China. This is part of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and represents a new challenge for Mika as he has yet to try his hand at sports car racing. The V12 racer has been shown to be competitive within its class and so the addition of a world class driver such as Hakkinen makes for an interesting time out on track.

Tennis ace Roger Federer has taken some time out of his sport and collected the keys to one very elegant Merc SLS Roadster. The man clearly has taste… The 6.2 litre beast does its usual party trick of roaring like a lion but with the roof down you are as cool as the machine sounds.

Mercedes new SLS Roadster has two advantages over its coupe sibling. Firstly the drop-top is most welcome on a summers day but more importantly with the roof down the ear mutilating growl of its 6.2 litre engine is even more audible. For full details on the SLS AMG Roadster click HERE.
