Peugeot 208 Type R5 Set To Be King Of The Off-Road

In recent years Peugeot have enjoyed great success on the international rallying stage thanks to their hugely impressive 207 S2000, a car which accumulated six Intercontinental Rally titles and served to propel several young drivers such as Thierry Neuville and Kris Meeke to WRC fame. The French powerhouse is now looking to continue its proud rallying tradition with the introduction of the new 208 Type R5, to be unveiled on 27th September at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

As a rally derived vehicle, the 208 Type R5 will have to fall in line with FIA category specifications. This means that it will feature 4WD, a five-speed gearbox, widened tracks, a spoiler and 18″ wheels. Ditching the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine of its predecessor, the 208 Type R5 will be powered by a 280bhp 1.6-litre turbo, already debuted in the RCZ Racing Cup.

Altogether, Peugeot have conjured up a lighter, more powerful and more agile beast which will complete a full test program by the end of 2012. It will make its competition debut in 2013, tasked with replicating the feats of the 207 S2000 on Intercontinental, European and National rally championships.

However, this 208 variant won’t just be confined to the rough and tumble of rallying. From late 2013, the Type R5 will be hitting UK showrooms ready for general sale. No details on pricing as yet, but be warned: you may find yourself shelling out some extra cash on a few acres of muddy field in Wales in order to get the best out of your new acquisition!

Limited Edition Honda Civic Ti Announced

As hot-hatches go, the feisty little Honda Civic Type R ticked pretty much all of the boxes; light on its feet, powerful, well made and above all good fun. For that reason we were understandably dismayed to see it consigned to the black hole of eco doom in 2010 for failing to meet new emissions standards, just one of many gems over the years to have been snared in that particular trap. Two years on and we are still waiting for Honda to come up with a less environmentally hazardous model but in the meantime here is a little something to wet your appetite.

Not strictly a hot-hatch, the limited edition Honda Civic Ti is a sports-inspired variant of the standard 5-door 1.8 SE model that comes with a goody bag of extras worth £1000. These include a shiny new set of 17-inch Team Dynamics ‘Le Mans’ alloys nestled beneath unique colour coded wheel arches. Moving inside the Civic Ti, Honda have thrown in a leather wrapped steering wheel and gear lever along with hands free Bluetooth connectivity besides all the standard equipment including climate control, USB and iPod ports, steering wheel audio controls and electric rear windows.

Only 1000 models will be available for purchase, in a choice of three different colours. Whilst this limited edition doesn’t exactly reignite the Civic hot-hatch fire, it does at least help to bridge the gap. A warm-hatch if you will. Not sure if that’s going to catch on!

The Honda Civic Ti will be priced at £16,995 and is available to order now.

2013 Aston Martin DB9 Unveiled

The Aston Martin DB9 has been around for eight years now and though it is no less of a car than when it was new, we can’t wait to see what will replace it. Aston rolled out their all-new Vanquish earlier this year and so at the very least an updated DB9 was due. Making its debut at the Paris motor show this is the 2013 DB9.

Looks familiar doesn’t it? In essence this car is something of a greatest hits album. Not much is all-new but it takes all of the best bits from the DB9 lineage to produce what appears to be a machine of great value. It’s front fascia has been transplanted directly from the now absent Virage and the rear is almost identical to the discontinued DBS. The engine is the same 5.9 litre V12 we know and love but the power output is now 510BHP accompanied by 457lb-ft of torque. Pricing starts from £131,995 (including the now standard carbon brakes) making it £18,000 cheaper than the Virage that only sold just over 1,000 units despite offering all of this performance. 0-62 in the 2013 DB9 can be completed in 4.6 seconds and it will go onto a top speed of 183MPH.
