2013 The Best Year To Buy A New Car?

We all know the feeling when “Mr next-door neighbor” pulls into his driveway with a brand new car. It’s alright for him in his job, but whilst many of us are still battling the dreaded double-dip recession, a new car is quite often out of the question. Or is it? Find out about new cars here. You see the motor industry faces the same problems as any other business sector does. With people having less money to spend, less cars are sold. However, many manufacturers are combating the harsh economic conditions with enticing offers and deals on cars in order to boost sales.

A new car with a big sticker price at the moment is likely open to some form of offer lowering the overall cost. Many brands are producing excellent 0% APR and deposit contributions on finance deals that make the purchase a much more viable proposition. These tough times can often work in your favour meaning that “Mr next-door” could well be admiring your shinny new set of wheels the next time you come home. Honda in particular are doing some really rather good offers right across their range, so don’t go thinking the only money saving to be done is on a small hatchback.

2013 could well be the right time to grab a bargain.

Inside Lane: A Year in Review 2012

And so it comes to pass… 2012 is fading into the pages of history, but what a year it has been! Great Britain hosted the Olympic Games, Barrack Obama was reelected and the world didn’t actually end. It was a great year for petrol heads too with an explosive Formula One season seeing Sebastian Vettel collect his 3rd world championship in dramatic fashion, some glorious car launches as well as some terrific anniversary celebrations.

For Inside Lane we have clocked our most successful year ever reviewing more cars, bringing you more news and receiving a greater readership. We are very proud of what we have achieved. Since Inside Lane started as a little blog in a small boys room years ago it has grown and that is all thanks to you guys and girls. Without you reading/watching what we do we wouldn’t be here and so I would like to thank each and every one of you.

2013 is set to be an even bigger year for the industry and we will be there waiting to bring you the latest. Have a fantastic New Year and drive safely.

Car Insurance, We All Need It…

It is a rather costly time of year thanks to the Christmas season. After the gifts have been exchanged and the turkey eaten, money can be tight, particularly in the current economic climate. If you run a car, 2013 means that you have at least three guaranteed expenses. Road tax, MOT and the dreaded car insurance. If you are like me, your renewal is soon after the New Year and the letter containing the documents for insurance have already arrived. Car insurance is an unavoidable cost, but it can be made a little easier on your bank balance if you shop around.

I would advise calling your current insurer to see if they would be willing to make a reduction on the basis of you being a reoccurring customer. This may lower your bill slightly, but don’t stop there. There are many price comparison sites out there, such as comparethemarket.com, who are willing to do all of the leg work, getting quotes from multiple insurers, making sure you get a broad perspective of how much you should be paying. If your current insurers offer is not competitive you have one of two options. Firstly give them a call back and tell them what you have found concerning competitors pricing, they may be willing to match them to keep your custom. Alternatively you can switch insurers with very little hassle. Rival companies are very keen to acquire new clients; you may find their deals much more pleasing than the one that came through the post.

The moral of the story is don’t be willing to just accept what a company tells you. Go out, do some homework and save those pounds!

Winter Wonderland? Make Sure Your Car Is Ready.

As Dean Martin once said “the weather outside is frightful” and as we plummet into the depths of winter conditions outside can be challenging. Despite temperatures being in negative figures and snow primed to fall, life goes on. We all still need to get to work or travel to locations. Is your car ready for winter? A few simple things can make life much easier whilst commuting.

Firstly it is key to make sure your car is in working order. Those little faults that you don’t get round to fixing could result in a breakdown at some point. Don’t risk it being at a time of year when the weather can lead to longer recovery times or even an accident. Vehicle health checks are a perfect way to make sure your car is primed for whatever may lay ahead.

Tyres are very important to a car at any time of year, but none more so than when the roads offer less grip than usual. Ensure your tyres have a good level of tread depth as those four rather understated black bits on a car go a long way to stop you in an emergency. Also if your car is using summer tyres consider changing to all-year or winter tyres as the tread pattern may not be suitable for wet or icy conditions.

Finally, carry the essentials! Deicer can be a life saver in treacherous conditions, visibility is key. Always have an ice scraper in the car to clear the windscreen before setting off. Taking a mobile phone with you is a sensible precaution allowing you to contact help if it is needed.

Keeping these things in mind will not only make sure your car is in good condition, but also keep you safe. Drive carefully over the coming weeks.

You Can Take Our Freedom, But You Will Never Take Our Cars…

It’s are hard life for the likes of you and me. Us who appreciate a car for being more than a convenience that takes us from point a to point b. We who admire these machines for more than function, more than being simply tools of the world. Together we crave their potential, their symbolic statuses, their history and prestige. Going for a drive for the sheer enjoyment of velocity is a rare thing indeed and something the majority are blind to. We have our heroes, they come in many shapes and sizes. These specimens of perfection in our eyes represent hopes, dreams, aspirations and the satisfaction of ownership. However the kingdom of which they earned is no longer theirs to roam free.

Cars that once were the centerpiece of a small boys poster proudly on display in his bedroom are still photographed, but not by adoring fans. The foot soldiers of a land that once relished in the howl of a V6 on a country road scar their paint with flashes of persecution. The man of tax feeds like a mosquito on those who pilot these machines, men who don’t just drive for self enjoyment, but in many cases as a public service displaying their automotive art. Speed bumps grind at their bellies, parking clamps invade their integrity and traffic wardens dirty their purity.

For us a car can be our ultimate exclamation of ones aspirations and achievements. So governments of the world listen fast… You can take our freedoms; you can fine us, scream and shout at us, and make life as a petrol head generally unpleasant through your tyranny. But you will never take our cars.

Secondhand Car Buyers Beware

The vast majority of us, at some point in our lives, will have to buy a used car. Be it your first motor or your four crusader, spending your hard earned pounds on something somebody has owned before you is always a risk. That said, it’s not hard to find a decent little car for the money you want out there on the secondhand market. Buying from a garage can also give you great confidence, but beware!

Regardless of its source, make sure you give the car a good going over. Check online for major faults and if you don’t really know what you are doing take someone with you who does. Always take a test drive. Treat the car a little harsher than you would normally in a bid to unearth any issues. A key thing to do is to check the description, and MAKE SURE it matches the car you are buying. Some garages list equipment in the car that isn’t there because they presume the last owner has not removed it. Let me tell you from personal experience that once the sale has been agreed on a car, the bloke from the garage couldn’t care less about missing equipment. If you don’t spot it they are not bothered.

Buying a car is a large investment for the majority so be careful. You wouldn’t buy a house if it was missing its windows would you?

Russian PM Gets Taste Of GP2

Valdimir Putin has been seen doing everything from shooting tigers to running Russia and has quite rightly gained the title of “Action Man.” Last week he managed to get hold of a 2010 GP2 car via Renault. This no doubt had something to do with their Lada sponsorship and their 2nd F1 seat being filled by a russian. Though similar in looks to an F1 car GP2 is a much lower tier of racing as they only have about 60% of the pace of their bigger brothers. However this figure still means you must be talented behind the wheel in order to keep control. Putin only span once as far as we could see and in damp condition we must applaud him.

Enjoy!

Motoring Masterpiece, Art painted by cars!

The world has produced some very fine artists who have gone on to produce some extremely influential art. Van Gogh and his amazing portrayal of colour, Leonardo Da Vinci created some of the most renowned works and of course there is the wonderful lines painted by a Caterham R300. Enter one of the most inspiring works of art ever created by a car and a bucket of paint.

48 hours at play with a host of RC cars, a go-kart, a Caterham R300, a Formula Two single-seater, a racing bike and a 6 tonne racing truck brought creator Ian Cook this! The 50 foot peace of art is breath taking as it depicts some fabulous racing machines including a few that helped bring it into existence. The painting was commissioned by oil and car care company, Comma, to celebrate 40 years of the brand being within motorsport.

So there you go, the world’s fastest paintbrushes!

Mini to Produce Tiny City Car

In a world where what you drive reflects upon a multitude of things, such as tax or even how many eggs the environmentalists will throw at you, manufacturers have been turning to the dark green side of the industry to please the Eco-folk. Mini has been toying with the idea of a small electric city car for a couple of years now and even produced the Mini E, an all-electric Mini that is leased to customers. However the Mini philosophy has been lost in translation to its German overloads as they continue to build bigger Mini’s, undermining the cars very name. They say it is due to safety but now the grand idea of “smaller is better” is once again proving its worth. This is the Mini Spiritual Concept.

Despite looking like a bloated chinchilla, the Spiritual is in fact the same size as the original car making it the first Mini in 10 years to truly be mini. Officials within Mini referred to this concept study as the “minor” possibly hinting that this car could one day share the name of its forefather. The Spiritual Concept hasn’t been confirmed for production but with BMW developing a new 3 cylinder engine, it’s certainly looking likely.
