2013 Nissan GT-R Gets Even Faster

The Nissan GT-R isn’t so much a car, but a technological showcase of what can happen when you give some of the greatest minds in engineering the resources of Nissan. The GT-R in its current generation has been with us since 2007 and with each new model year comes a few tweaks that makes the car even more focused. The 2012 car pulled a real ace from up its sleeve by dropping its 0-62MPH time to just 2.8 seconds. This MY2013 car gets even faster!

Power from the GT-R’s twin-turbocharged 3.8 litre V6 remains the same at 550BHP, but thanks to refining this already successful formula you can get to 62MPH from standing 0.1 seconds faster. Let us think about that for a moment… 0-62MPH in 2.7 seconds in a car that seats four and has Nissan reliability. This package can complete a lap of the Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 18 seconds, 3 seconds a lap faster than its predecessor. This extra performance comes thanks to new injectors, a new relief valve for the turbos and an improved oil pan baffle to aid oil pressure. Out of the engine bay the suspension set-up has been fettled with and other components strengthened. Also the front bracing has been strengthened.

The 2013 Nissan GT-R goes on sale spring 2013.

Nissan Extrem Concept Revealed

As sales in Europe hinder big automotive manufacturers, emerging and developing markets are becoming key to sales. Proof of this is the turnout that the 2012 Brazilian motor show has had. Big players such as VW, Porsche, Lamborghini and even Bugatti attended. Nissan are looking to expand their line-up with some affordable new models that also turn heads. The Extrem Concept tests the water.

Speculated to be a CR-Z rival last week when teaser images were published, the Extrem turns out to be a crossover that has similar qualities to Honda’s hybrid. Using the Micra’s chassis, this concept car previews future styling, that clearly borrows from the GT-R, as well as outlining the potential development of a 2+2 crossover. Power comes from a 1.6 litre turbocharged engine and its manufacture would likely also take place in Brazil.

Nissan’s CR-Z Rival Teased

The Honda CR-Z is a a car that some people love and others hate. I have a test car on loan at the moment and despite all of its flaws, it is very much a car I like. However, it was criticized for all sorts of reasons by the press and it looks like Nissan are readying themselves to try and do better than their Japanese rivals.

This teaser images seem to depict a small Nissan coupe that could go head to head with the CR-Z. To be unveiled at the Brazilian motor show on 24th October, the only clue Nissan has given us is that this “high-character concept will introduce a unique new genre to the automotive world.”

We shall keep you posted.

Nissan Terra Sees Hydrogen As The Future

In a world where we are going to run out of the worlds most used resource, oil, you would think the boffins would hurry up and create a solution to our dependance on the black stuff. Whatever your opinion on the environment it will be an issue that we all have to address as fuel cost sore. Hydrogen power has many benefits including zero emissions other than water and the fact that hydrogen is an abundant source in our universe. Nissan made big strides with the Leaf but now want to combine that technology with another that is likely to find its way into your car at some point in the future.

Named the Nissan Terra Concept, this all wheel drive crossover uses an electric motor derived from the Leaf to power the front wheels and two smaller electric motors to power the rear wheels individually. The revolution comes from the implementation of a hydrogen powered engine that in turn powers the electric motors. Other interesting features found on this rather angular concept are a set of suicide doors as well as seats that appear to have come from the USS Enterprise.

Nissan To Build “Limited Run” Of Juke-R

They say bringing a knife to a gunfight is never a good idea; but what if your metaphorical knife has a hidden talent? When Nissan said they would build a Juke that could rival the performance of a supercar, I will be honest, I laughed and carried on doing whatever task I was part way through and didn’t spare it another thought. When the car actually came to light, at first I vomited at its sheer aesthetic horror, but then was in awe of the numbers that came with it. Now Nissan are willing to build a few more Juke-R.

Originally set to be a technical demonstration of just two cars, the Juke-R cannibalises the GT-R supercar and takes with it 545BHP and a top speed of 160MPH. Thanks to the 3.8 litre V6 and all the electronic magic that goes with it, it is enough to worry some of the big names pictured above. Nissan will build to order a limited run of Juke-R using the 2012 GT-R as opposed to the original that employed the 2010 model.

No pricing was given in the press release.

Nissan DeltaWing Is Spaceship For Le Mans

The Le Mans 24 hours is one of the most prestigious races in motorsport history. Sitting on par with royalty such as the Monaco Grand Prix or the Dakar Rally, everyone is out to have their name calved into the history books of this race. The range of cars competing spans multiple classes including the top dogs in LMP1, however Nissan’s 2012 car is so radical that it gets its own classification.

To be branded with the number 0 on race day, this is the Nissan DeltaWing. The Japanese say that this car could change the face of endurance racing with its radical new design. Powered by a 300BHP 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine (not diesel like the previous winners) it is down on raw grunt in comparison to the lead cars. Yet, the DeltaWing has a couple of aces up its sleeve. Thanks to the cars superior aerodynamic form it should be the fastest in terms of top speed and can produce times just a little slower than the LMP1 cars. “Hmmm but that is still not as quick as an LMP1?” Very true but the lack of drag means that the DeltaWing uses half the amount of fuel, and as we all know, this race can be won or lost in the pit lane.

Nissan Takes On Ford With Invitation Concept

The Geneva international motor show is just around the corner and as per usual various guests have been showing themselves just a tad early. This year promises to bring a wide variety of machines and a vast quantity of them aim to rival a competitor. There are only so many segments of the car market that can be created without getting stupid like BMW have done with the X6. The B-segment is entering a phase of high competition with Ford bringing the new B-Max to the game this September. Nissan have been feeling left out.

This Nissan Invitation invites Ford to try its best whilst the Japanese match it punch for punch. Due to make production in 2013 as the aging Notes replacement, the high riding family car uses a heavily sculpted design language making a rather handsome to look at. The Invitation also matches the B-Max with a 1.0 litre option but pairs it with a supercharger. Emissions will be lower than 100g/km.

Nissan GT-R GT3 Racer Sets Sights On Checkered Flag

A racing car is much more a scientific piece of equipment than merely a tool for an athlete to cross the finishing line. They are about precision and accuracy, power and weight, pure performance. The Nissan GT-R in its standard guise is an all mighty machine capable of obliterating supercars worth four times its cost. Put this amazing machine on steroids and what you end up with is a GT3 racing car.

Now available for private teams to purchase, this is the 2012 Nissan GT-R GT3. Developed by Nissan’s premier tuners, Nismo, the stripped out track hardened beast packs a 523BHP punch. The engine is the very same 3.8 litre twin-turbo V6 that the road car has but thanks to a little Jap magic, it is quite the motor to go racing in. The suspension is adjustable and all your usual FIA roll cage equipment is packed into the body.

All this can be yours for just under £250,000.

Nissan GT-R Track Pack Launched

The Japanese are just mad. Not in a negative sense as these people are just lightyears ahead of the rest of the world. Whilst we bumble about with vending machines they are streaming live T.V. on a mobile whilst on an underground rail system. In terms of technology you can’t do much better. This is also conveyed in their cars. The Nissan GT-R, thanks to its vast computing power, can blitz almost anything on wheels. Today it just got a bit faster.

We reported on the 2012 Nissan GT-R a while ago and we are still in awe of its incredible 0-62MPH time of just 2.7 seconds. Well, the very intelligent chaps at Nissan have decided that its time to make the car travel at an even quicker pace by optimising it for the track. This is the GT-R track pack and its modifications include; Rays alloys, racing seats, new break cooling ducts, missing rear seats as well as revised springs and dampers. The result of these alterations is that the car handles even better than the biblical base car.

All this for £84,450. Makes you curious as to why people consider those “slow” super cars such as the Ferrari 458…

Nissan Juke Nismo Concept Rears Its Ugly Head

The fettling of your machine is a big part of Japanese car culture. Be it adding new bumpers or turning a Civic into a monster under the bonnet, that is just how their world keeps on revolving. Nismo are a well known tuning company who work specifically with Nissan creating some rather memorable pieces of equipment. Now they have got their hands on a Juke.

By no means as mad as the Juke-R, this Nismo Juke takes the toolbox to one of the ugliest cars on the road. A new body kit makes the car a bit more sightly whilst improving aerodynamic downforce in conjunction with the front bumper and rear diffuser. Stiffer springs and making a few changes to the 1.6 litre engine complete the package.
