Audi A1 Quattro Is Little Monster

Audi’s little A1 can be found bumbling around most cities these days flaunting its German luxury. The good looking hatch has a lot going for it in terms of practicality, style and of course badge snobbery. But what if you’re a little too manly for the baby of Audi’s range? What if testosterone regularly fills your veins and the A1 would provoke mockery from your manly friends? Well, Audi now has a solution for you.

This is the A1 variant we have all been waiting for! Audi’s new A1 Quattro not only has the German’s legendary four wheel drive, but also 252BHP from its 1.4 litre. Add 258lb-ft of torque into the mix and that equates to a 0-62MPH time of just 5.7 seconds. The pocket rockets top speed is 152MPH. New tyres, suspension and that aggressive body kit make the A1 Quattro the perfect Christmas gift.

Want one? Of course you do! However, claiming the keys to this little monster is easier said than done. Only 333 units will be produced and Audi have not conformed if any will be produced in right-hand-drive.

Audi A1 Sportback Opens New Doors

Audi’s new supermini, the A1, is selling very well. The premium German city car gives owners all the luxuries of its bigger brother but in a much more pocket friendly size. Though purposely small, the only real issue is accessing the rear seats through the front doors. Audi are tackling this with the Sportback.

Adding a second set of doors to the rear means that taking mount in the second row is now much easier. The car is only 6mm wider and taller than the three door variant meaning it should have all the great traits found in the smaller car. Going on sale early 2012, the A1 Sportback will launch with four engines of which three are petrol including a range topping 1.6 turbo. The only diesel is a 1.6 litre four cylinder with 103BHP.

Prices start at £13,980.

Audi A1 Clubsport Quattro Packs A 496BHP Punch

The German’s… Stereotypically efficient, logical and always on time. Over the past few decades building cars has become a particular strength as today people will climb over each other to get the keys to a solid piece of engineering wearing a BMW, Audi or Mercedes badge. Another word you would use to describe German cars is sensible, well that was until now as Audi smash that trait with the A1 Clubsport Quattro.

Serving as a precursor to the S1 to be revealed later this year this Concept car is nothing short of epic. It’s aggressive rally styled bodywork is more than enough to scare children aged 7 and under. The beating heart of this little upstart is a 2.5 litre five-cylinder engine that produces an almighty 496BHP. 496BHP in a car small enough to be mistaken for a shoe!!! The end result is a power to weight ratio of 356.8BHP/tonne, incredible. Torque is also of biblical proportions with 487lb-ft. Even more impressive is this cars 0-62MPH time of 3.7 seconds making it the second fastest accelerating car in Audi’s range after the R8 V10.

You want one, we want one, but neither of us can have one.

Latest Audi A1 Is Turbo And Supercharged!

Audi’s little A1 hatchback is selling rather well contributing to their record sales. Though lacking the the companies legendary Quattro drive, soon to be fixed with the S1, the bold city car more than makes up for it in the form of nippy handling. Priced higher than competitors it may been seen as too costly but with the standard Audi premium feel it is entirely justifiable. Now Audi have decided to not only supercharge it but add a turbo for good measure.

The new 1.4 litre TFSI with supercharger and a turbo squeezed under the tiny bonnet give this little car over 180BHP, more than enough to run four rings around the competition. Priced at £20,705 its not really in the same price band as a Mini but you do get Audi’s S tronic twin-clutch transmission on the S-line variant. For a pint-sized car 250Nm of torque is phenomenal, factor in a 0-62MPH of just 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 141MPH things like the Fiat 500 Abath wouldn’t stand a chance.

Audi A1 Quattro Prototype Revealed

Audi’s of late have been sublime in the handling department. No more of this nose heavy nonsense it is all about grip and go where the four rings are concerned. The development of the Quattro drive system, named after the legendary Audi Quattro, has been ongoing for 30 years and almost every car in the brands range has it. That is except for the little A1 supermini but that is soon to be fixed with the hotly anticipated performance variants.

Audi has unveiled the current prototype A1 with Quattro all-wheel-drive that will one day become the S1 and maybe even RS1. The little car with lots of grunt is taking part in some Quattro celebrations in Montreal. With power to all wheels the prototype has no problem cutting through snow covered roads and surpassing expectations during winter testing.

We wait with baited breath to see the finished product later this year.

Audi A1 Sells for £350,000 at Charity Auction

Last night Sir Elton John held his annual charity event to raise money for Aid’s sufferers. 700 VIP’s attended the event in order to have a good night out and also get some much needed funding to those who need it. At the event a very special Audi A1 was auctioned off for an astounding £350,000!

Now £350,000 can buy you a hell of a lot of car, so what was so amazing about this A1? British contemporary artist Damien Hirst transformed the compact German hatch into a thing of wonder with his skills. The vibrant colours caught the eyes of many potential owners but in the end it sold for that rather handsome sum of money. All of the proceeds go to the charity and the A1 to its new owner well before its November launch.

Audi Uses Augmented Reality with A1

For those of us who don’t speak “I.T.” augmented reality, from what I can gather is a form of witchcraft. The basic principle is that you get a sheet of paper with some markings on it and hold it in front of a webcam, the computer then magic’s up a 3D model on top of this piece of paper that becomes interactive when you move it. Audi have incorporated this into a working model of the new A1.

I don’t know all the ins and outs but Audi tell us that it’s not black magic and that it’s all to do with some clever computer-trickery. Regardless of its origins, it’s bloody brilliant! I was amused for hours just by waving this piece of paper around; despite my childlike playing I am told that this live CGI has a valid use. Audi have created this photorealistic interactive model to insure people can have a good look around the A1 before its launch in the autumn. Opening the boot and doors give users the ability to look deep within the cabin of the A1 and really get a feel for its layout.

Amazing stuff, you can give it a go yourself by following this link to the Audi website: http://www.audi.co.uk/new-cars/a1/a1/augmented-reality.html
